Animal Man #1 is my first opportunity to read a book by Jeff Lemire. I've heard nothing but great things about him, and I've gotta say, everything was spot-on. Animal Man is not a character I would've ever guessed would be so interesting and engrossing. Lemire makes him an everyman that none of us can be, yet all of us already are. Buddy Baker's powers could be quite laughable, but are truly respectable in this. It's quite enjoyable to be allowed to be able to peer into his life, both professional and personal. The art is possibly a weak spot, but it fits the feel of the book and does grow on you, especially toward the end of the issue. I've gotta say, another book I look forward to continuing.
